Jennifer Boomgaarden is an award-winning executive leader with a passion for classical music and educating young people. Since her appointment as Executive Director of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra in 2010, Jennifer has successfully returned the orchestra to family and opera programming; added Music as Medicine, High School Residency, Carnegie Hall’s Link Up and mentoring programs to its repertoire of activities; and, articulated a new artistic vision that defines its passions and serves as a living document to guide the SDSO into the future. In 2016, the SDSO was awarded the Bush Prize for Community Innovation for the ground-breaking work in engaging its unique community and was selected as one of five orchestras in the country to host a New Music USA composer residency form 2017-2019. Jennifer was awarded the Helen M. Thompson Award by the League of American Orchestras in 2015 for exceptional leadership, dedication, and accomplishment in the field of orchestra management. When not managing the SDSO, Jennifer enjoys an active life that includes adventure travel, kickboxing, golf, and her golden retriever, Ollie.
